Description

Stroll through Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Lauderdale’s oldest white cemetery, perched on the crest of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge. Admire the mausoleums and amazing old trees along the cliff’s edge over Cliff Lake. Breathe in the verdant and shaded tranquility with downtown towers popping up in the distance over the treetops.

Walk down the unimproved easternmost section of SE 12th Street and you’ll feel like you’re on a country road. Feel the land gently fall below you as you arrive at the bottom of the coastal ridge where the path literally cuts through the limestone that was once quarried here. The quarry cut into the ridge at perhaps its tallest vertical distance in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. After the quarry closed it was filled with water to create Cliff Lake, a tranquil, unexpected birdwatchers delight. From the east side of the lake the namesake cliff left by the quarry becomes apparent.

Round out your tour walking through the minimalist, Postwar Modern Cliff Lake Villas quadruplexes arranged around the verdant slopes at the south end of Cliff Lake.
